Education Month: investing in Canada’s accounting community

Accountants and bookkeepers are more than the people who keep the numbers in order. They help small businesses understand where they are, make informed decisions and plan for what comes next. Across Canada, that expertise and perspective make a real difference to the business owners and communities they serve.

As Education Month gets underway, I want to recognize the accounting and bookkeeping professionals who support Canadian small businesses every day. It’s also a chance to share what Education Month means to us: investing in the people and practices that help those businesses thrive.

Learning for the work practices do every day

The work of accounting and bookkeeping continues to evolve. Client expectations are changing, technology is advancing, and practices are looking for ways to deliver more insight and support—not just report on what has already happened.

That makes ongoing learning important. It can help practices build confidence with new tools, strengthen the services they offer and find practical ways to make more time for clients.

From November 3 to December 10, Xero Education Month offers Canadian partners 18 free virtual webinars. The sessions cover topics including advisory services, year-end and tax-season preparation, artificial intelligence and Xero products and features. Participants can ask questions during live Q&As, access recordings and use follow-up resources to apply what they’ve learned. The program also offers the opportunity to earn up to 24 CPD credits.

Making learning useful

Education Month is designed to meet practices where they are. For some, that may mean exploring a feature that could make a workflow more efficient. For others, it could mean thinking about how to build advisory services, prepare for a busy season or approach AI with care and confidence.

There is no single path for every firm. The value is in having access to practical ideas, expert guidance and time to consider what could work for your team and your clients. Learning can start with a small change: a better process, a new question in a client conversation or a clearer understanding of where technology can help—and where professional judgement matters most.

That human judgement remains central. Tools can support the work, but accountants and bookkeepers bring the context, relationships and expertise that help small businesses make sense of their finances and act on them.

Recognizing the people behind the numbers

At Xero, supporting the accounting and bookkeeping community means listening to the professionals who work with small businesses and investing in resources that help them grow. Education Month is one way to put that commitment into action—not as a one-size-fits-all answer, but as an invitation to keep learning and sharing what works.

To the accountants and bookkeepers across Canada: thank you for the care, expertise and perspective you bring to your clients. The work you do helps businesses move forward, and we’re proud to support you.

Explore the Education Month schedule, choose a session that fits your practice and bring an idea back to your team. I’m looking forward to hearing what you learn and how you put it into practice.
