As an independent payroll consultant I am totally against Xero ever trying to do payroll. Payroll is now such a specialist area that no Accounting software package ever does payroll well and it ends up as the poor relation. We never get clients moving from a stand alone payroll to an integrated one, it would be a step backwards in every case. Every payroll can generate a GL import file which contains all the information you need in Xero in respect to payroll so my advice is pick a payroll that suits your needs and an accounting system but they should not be the same product.

Hi Arnon, Our plan is to do the accounting for stock. Managing large stock lists would be more appropriately be managed in your POS, Warehousing or eCommerce software. Check out some of our great partners here: http://www.xero.com/add-ons/

Being a clothing and footwear wholesaler, it is important that stock inventory has the option to add multiple sizes and colours, to one product code. Entering each individual product, with each indivdual colour and size would be very time consuming let alone the strain on the database as it would work out for us at around 80,000 new product codes per year. Are there any plans to add this option to inventory product codes?

@Reuben http://blog.xero.com/2010/09/simple-inventory/ Online accounting is still fairly new. We're ahead in a bunch of areas and still have work to do in some. But we're working hard and we are getting there.

Stock control & accounting for it, should be a basic, standard feature for accounting software. Xero is behind the times in this area.

Can't see the ability to offer discounts when invoicing, and as previoulsy mentioned would like payroll built in without the need for another add on

We're a Canadian company reviewing Xero as an alternative to Quickbooks but inventory management (stock) is a deal breaker for us. Easy for you guys to solve I would think, why not make it happen? Payroll is irrelevant as a Canadian company as we can use another provider and simply enter the details, but inventory management (together with the ability to generate purchase orders) is a must have.

I am a small counrty florist & would like more organisation in my little business as I have relay systems I have to deal with & other comapies in which I deal that require invoicing on occations. I also have now registered for the Gst.
I received a broshure on your accounting online package & thought I may give it ago as I currently write everything in a journel. Coming up for the end of the financial year i would like to trial this to see if it is good for me.
Regards Helen. N.B. I wil comment again in the coming months.

I was recommended this package and am disappointed to see that there is no stock module. All our invoices are stock related.

Definitely need some form of stock control to be a complete accounting solution - we only need it to be basic - ie record stock coming in and going out - the overall stock valuation is then automatically calculated within the accounts software and we can check actual stock against what the accounting system thinks we should have.

Can I enter an expense (e.g. a flight) against a customer/job and automatically bring it into the customer's invoice?
